Our project
On November 8th, 2013, at 12:13 pm, Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines. It happens that, around then, we were deciding on the natural disaster to study for our project. Typhoon Haiyan inspired us to help out. After a bit of research, and contacting a few experts, we found that there was so much destruction because most people weren’t prepared and didn’t know what to do when the typhoon struck. Can educating the children make a difference? In future disasters they would be prepared and wouldn’t be as devastated. We created a musical in which superheroes help educate a couple kids and give them a list of materials to put in a survival kit. Part of this ‘education’ includes warning signs and what to do while actually experiencing a typhoon. We also had a fundraiser in which we raised over 3,000$ and 17 boxes of supplies.Along with the boxes shipped to the Philippines, we sent a Samsung Tablet including a video of a musical that we wrote, performed, and recorded ourselves.
Below is a digital comic summarizing our musical.
We raised awareness of our team, fundraisers, and project in the January 7th edition of beach metro!
